Search Engine Optimisation

Local SEO

What Is Local SEO and Why Is It Important?

Local SEO allows you to optimise your website and content to cater towards a specific geographic region. If you have a local business, then local SEO is making sure that people can find your business location on the internet. This can mean both searching for the business name, as well as finding you via non-branded location-based keywords for the product or service you offer.

Local SEO is relevant to both big businesses and local mom-and-pop businesses.

Think of a big business such as a supermarket. A supermarket would have stores in numerous store locations which they would like to be found. Smaller businesses like a coffee shop, may want to rank for ‘coffee shop near me.’

An extremely important part of local SEO is your Google My Business (GMB). Google understands the intent behind a keyword and if it believes the intent is for a local store or service then it is likely to serve GMB listings in the form of a map. Due to the interactive and detailed nature of GMB listings, (Reviews, listings, photos) click through rates and conversions are high.

What Is Local SEO and Why Is It Important?

Local SEO at Indago Digital

Local SEO forms a significant part of a lot of our client profiles’ SEO strategies. If your business has multiple locations, is trying to drive in-store traffic or having a local presence adds kudos to your brand then local SEO is correct for you.

At Indago we view local SEO in two ways:

Website – producing local pages on your website that are locally optimised with local back-links and content, including the ability to rank for ‘near me’ terms.

Google My Business (GMB) – local SEO typically includes optimising for Google My Business (GMB) and Bing Places.

Our Methodology and Results

We’ve established a clear top down process to analyse the state of your current position in local SEO and help you draw a clear path to where you would like to be as a business. This process is conducted in four stages which are outlined below.

Audit

Audit - Conduct an initial audit of the current local SEO performance. This looks at what you are currently ranking for, the strength of the brand, the need for multiple GMBs if you have multiple store locations.

We analyse which best practices are you missing based on Google guidelines, SEO, and keyword research. We check whether you are tracking your GMB campaign performance in Google Analytics.

Optimisation phase

Optimisation phase - The optimisation phase is where we bring the missing elements from the audit to life.

This can be creating and optimising new GMB, Bing places or creating new landing pages that are focused on giving you the best possible chance to rank and drive traffic and sales.

We make sure that we set tracking up so that campaigns are broken down to the most appropriate categories, that are discussed and agreed by you.

Results/Tracking

Results/Tracking - We use SEO enterprise software to help track the performance of your local rankings and continue to work with you to optimise.

SEO has an always-on element, which requires consistent attention and adjustments due to Google (and other search engines) consistently changing ranking algorithm.

Continuous always-on optimisations

Continuous always-on optimisations - We help you with an always-on, local SEO strategy.

A strategy which helps you optimise GMB posts, Bing posts, and offers continuous adjustments that ensure you are driving both brand and non-branded search traffic.

We always bought into the fact that SEO was a critical channel for us to be investing into but hadn’t had the success we were hoping for through other agencies. Although we’ve a long way to go the early signs are positive. SEO sessions and conversions are up! We’ve now decided to use their PPC services as well.
