CareerOne - Technical SEO Case Study
The CareerOne challenge
CareerOne was in a highly competitive space.
It was always in competition against established and traditional players such as Seek, but in recent years it now had to contend with new global sites such as Indeed and less conventional competitors such as LinkedIn.
SEO traffic had been dropping for many years, and a fresh approach with a technical steer was needed.
The business was also a joint venture with Monster.com and its platform was old – consequentially, it was suffering from numerous technical and content issues which hindered performance. Furthermore, Australia wasn’t high on the priority list either. Hence the clients’ SEO requirements were rarely satisfied.
Our methodology
Indago Digital’s solution was highly technical and focused on the large-scale creation of vertical, sub-vertical and job-specific pages.
These pages would not sit under the Monster platform – rather on the CareerOne platform, which allowed them to be controlled and optimised by the client.
An internal linking campaign ensured that these new pages had the highest authority and optimal chance to rank amongst search engines.
We also used migration and canonical tag strategy to ensure that search engines would comprehend the correct pages to rank – and to transfer any current value across to the newly created pages.
The results
As recruitment-sector businesses are highly seasonal and with the client’s analytical data not being trusted, measuring campaign success by traffic made little sense. Therefore, it was measured by the number of relevant and targeted keywords that the site was ranked for.
In the preceding six months of this strategy’s implementation,
- 240% increase in SEO visibility
- Doubled keywords ranking on the first page of Google
